Prairie Rattlesnakes:
Guardians of the Grassland

Thursday, March 5th, 7-9 PM | Canyon Theater

Join Cameron Young from the Center for Snake Conservation for a night all about rattlesnakes.  This presentation follows the fascinating "year in the life" of a rattlesnake, from their winter slumber in communal dens to the high-stakes drama of the summer hunt, combat rituals, and the birth of a new generation. By exploring their complex life cycle and natural history, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how these incredible predators survive and thrive in the Boulder landscape. Come discover why the rattlesnake is a critical, yet often misunderstood, component of our local ecosystems.

"Respect the Rattle" Sign Contest

Posters Due: Friday, March 13th, 2026

Voting Period: Saturday, March 14th to Friday, March 20th, 2026

Winners Announced: At the Rattlesnake Revelry Fundraiser on March 21st, 2026.

Each year, as the grassland warms, our native prairie rattlesnakes emerge from their winter dens to bask and hunt. These iconic reptiles are critical to healthy ecosystems, acting as natural pest control that keeps rodent populations in check. However, they are often misunderstood and face threats from habitat loss and human fear. Protecting these essential creatures means replacing fear with facts and learning how to share our trails and backyards safely.

We believe in keeping common species common and are challenging you to create Rattlesnake Awareness Signs for us to post at My Nature Lab. Your sign should help neighbors and hikers understand the importance of rattlesnakes and how to give them the space they deserve. Signs will be displayed at My Nature Lab. Vote for your favorites in person and on our social media pages.
