Becca loves hiking and sunshine, her favorite animal is the one she’s holding at the time, and she believes hands-on, real world experiences provide the richest education. My Nature Lab is a perfect fit, and she is excited to join the Lab on its mission of conservation through education.
Beginning at the age of 12 and through high school and college, Becca taught private and group swim lessons and served as either assistant or head coach to local summer league and club swim teams. At the University of Virginia, Becca’s leadership and positivity earned her nomination as team captain of the women’s swim team her sophomore through senior years. In 2001, Becca graduated from the University of Virginia Curry School of Education with a Masters in Elementary Education. She taught fifth grade at Ashburn Elementary in Ashburn, Virginia for four years, where she earned Teacher of the Year in 2002. Becca made it her mission to foster her students’ love of learning while leading them to excel at state standardized tests. For the last fourteen years, Becca has been actively involved in her kids’ public and home education. She now homeschools her three children, ages 14, 11, and 7.
From teaching a five year old boy to blow bubbles for the first time, to rebuilding the shattered confidence of a ten year old girl still learning to read, to partnering with her own children on their lifelong journey of learning, Becca loves working with, inspiring, and being inspired by kids of all ages.
Isabel is an educator and volunteer coordinator at My Nature Lab. With a life-long passion for caring for animals and working with children, Isabel found herself right at home here.
Although Isabel never held a snake before meeting Cameron, she was eager to learn all that she could about these amazing creatures. You can often find Isabel feeding the iguanas some blueberries, training volunteers, and helping first time snake handlers feel confident and curious!
